I don't know much English but I will try my best to explain.

ok. well some ativities you can try are filling some baby bottles with wine or beer. and having a contest to see who finishes first.

another one that I did has buying the cheap plastic babies and putting diapers on them with ketchup, or mayonnaise, what ever as long as it feel nasty. they will have something on their eyes so they can't see. and try their best to change the diaper and put a new one on. they also need baby wipes. the guy who cleans better the baby, and puts on the diaper correctly wins.

hope it helps.

Are you at all creative? If so, why don't you make something for the baby's room. They sell cool wooden pieces in most craft stores that can be handpainted. For example, when my niece was born I bought wooden letters that spelled out her name and painted simple vines and flowers on them (trust me I am not artist but the flowers were tiny so just a dot will do!). The letters still hang in her room 6 years later. Obviously you cannot do that if you dont know the name, but maybe there is a wooden shape or shelf you could decorate.

There's always the old standard diaper pin game. everyone is given 4 diaper pins at the begining of the shower and you explain that if you say the word "baby" and someone catches you, you have to give them one of your pins. Whoever has the most pins at the end of the party wins.
If they've chosen a name for the baby you can give everyone a piece of paper and see how many words they can make out of the letters of the baby's whole name. Since they don't know the sex of the baby, you could use both names.
As far as a gift goes, some things are gender biased and completely necessary, bath tub, stroller, car seat etc. One of the things I appreciated the most was a basket of things you don't think of till you need them at 3 in the morning.. Baby Tylenol, a thermometer, Gas Drops, etc.
Have a great time, hope it helps.

I bought my sister a Baby Bunch - baby layette items (onesies, bibs socks etc) wrapped to look like a bouquet of flowers. You can get them at:

http://www.babybunch.com

She absolutely loved it and was the most unique gift at the baby shower. You can't go wrong!

My mom threw a babyshower for me and we did this one game that you have to cut the string guessing how big around the mommys tummy is. That was fun! She also made me a diaper cake and that was neat and usefull. Just dont have too many games so it doesnt get complicated.Their was this one game with a bag of baby stuff and i was blind folded and had to guess the items as fast as i could that came out of the paper bag! We also had a guessing calender to guess when the baby will be born and how much he will weight. and then the winner will get a gift after the baby is born. Also keep the food to a minimum their no point making tons of food just chips and ordervers were great at my baby shower! Goodluck im sure you will do a fine job! have fun =)

since you are friends, add a gift that is personal between the two of you for the little one, Maybe something made up with the boys name on it, a blanket, or a personalized outfit with the name on it, with a baby history book that she can keep track of all the events and special things in the childs life. Of course, a months free box of diapers wouldnt hurt..lol... good luck..

Editing to add on to the answer above: about the names on back - for baby showers, I have seen fairy tale characters or nursery rhymes. You'll have to be sure that they are well-known in Germany but that shouldn't be a problem since that part of the world is where many of our fairy tales came from...

Why don't you start the invite (unless you've already sent them) by calling it an "American-Style Baby Shower to welcome the baby and supply the nursery"? This way, they'll get the hint. Are baby showers not common in Germany?

Did the mommy-to-be register anywhere? You could also add the registry information to the invite, especially if it is on-line.

Another game would be to take labels off baby food jars and have the guests try to guess the food that is in them - stay away from the blended ones though since they'd be impossible.

Another game is to put clothes pins on people - start with 5 or so... then everytime they say "baby" or "no" or some other key word, a person can take one of the clothes pins away - the person with the most wins. Funny how people will work around words or try to get folks to say it...

A cheap gift might be a little terra cotta flower pot with flower seeds - to signify new life! Or a fall plant of some sort.

Have fun!!
