What to Look for in a Pre-school

Montessori Toys for Toddlers - Education is the cornerstone of success and it begins in early childhood with the first portal of learning – The Pre-School. If statistics are any index, then ninety percent of the human brain is developed by the age of three years and near complete development has occurred by the age of five years – which makes preschool the most impressionable of all the learning institutes that the growing child would attend in the years to come!

THE CONVENTIONAL MODE

In the not-so-recent past, it was simple and effective to put a child in preschool – all it entailed was consulting the directory and calling the school closest to home and the child was admitted!

The perceived needs of the parents were limited to:

A safe, secure and warm classroom environment for the budding child

The focus expected being primarily academics

Logistically, the school needed to be close to the home and convenient to attend

The changing times have witnessed exponential increases in both the number of preschools and the expectations of the parents per se.

THE ENHANCED LEARNING CURVE

Present day parents are more discerning and aware considering that preschools play such an important role in development – the expectations are high and the perceived needs of the parents are more spatial than ever before. The new age expectations from a preschool are more than a safe and mere academic institution. The expectations from the modern day preschool need to encompass some or more of the following:

An institution which could inculcate spatial personality development

Preschools with a reputation and a prestigious name

Aligned to the perceived needs of the parents – be it religious or values driven

Availability in synchronicity with the work schedules of the parent(s)

The Curriculum – well-structured or play-based method depending on the preferences of parents

Feedback – present day decisions are strongly driven by feedback – even more so for preschools considering it is important to assimilate and analyze the real time experiences of parents and children

THE OPTIONS

The present day Preschools could well be demarcated:

The traditional half –day school program being in alignment with those not wanting to overburden the child very early in life

A school with a full-day program - as in a state-sponsored program which would predictably be the option of choice if both parents or single parents work all day

The religious school environs could well be need of offering a non-secular environment

Discerning parents then would address this critical decision conscientiously, considering that it entails enormous planning and judicious decision-making which invariably begins with identification of preschools, followed by an in–depth researching of facilities and track record of the institutions – moderated by the feedback of others and finally conclude based on the personal real time visit perceptions before making the decision.

Any ideas?

An idea is to check through the school district if they have a free preschool program. Another idea might be looking for the Head Start in your area which is based on family income. However, I have included some other places that might be of interest to you.

Is there a community center in your area…or even a library? A lot od time the people who are employed there, or even the patrons there have knowledge of good places in the area.

Good luck, I know how importnant this is from personal experience.

It is hard to answer, since I know so little about India. However, I would start by getting your AMI training. AMI is very big in India and it is recognized worldwide as a Montessori certificate.

Your training center will be able to give more information specific to India, but I would also suggest contacting the Montessori Foundation at http://www.Montessori.org They are set up to help promote Montessori worldwide and probably have specific information.

Be careful about mixing traditional and Montessori methods. If you study them, you will see how different they are. Please don't call your school "Montessori" if you are going to do that. That hurts the perception of other schools that work hard to maintain that name.

Good luck and I hope things work out!

You can't explain it. All of number theory is wrong. The number line collapses into a number point, since all numbers are equal to each other, and as the number point moves through time, it inscribes a hypercube, each point of which represents one of the great religions of the world. If this news were to get out, all of the world's banks would collapse, money would be meaningless, and Indo-European terrorists would impose a barter economy on the US. The Antichrist would ascend to the figurehead presidency and lead us into the final conflict against Babylon, which will last for eternity. Dogs will lie with cats. All the world's Coke will go flat, and cheeseburgers will no longer be yummy.

Or, maybe, everyone who answers this question WEEKLY on here is right, and you can't divide by zero. :)

Puppy preschool is a fantastic idea. My puppy started last Tuesday and he really enjoyed it. They get to socialise with other dogs and learn the basic commands (sit, stay, drop, come, stand). It will help create a bond with your dog and training at a young age will make your job much easier later on. One point on socialisation; its very important. That is the main reason I am taking my puppy to these classes. Our older dog wasn't socialised with other dogs that much as a puppy and he can be aggressive towards a lot of dogs. Puppy preschool is a stepping stone towards having a well trained dog and can make obidience training later on easier and more enjoyable.

As for finding a good preschool, it depends where you live. A lot of vets offer classes on the weekends which can be very convinient if you work all week. I take my dogs to our local VIP Pet Foods dog club, which is a great place with very frendly people.

I looked up the Feed Stores in Tucson AZ under http://www.Anywho.com This is where you find out where the local poultry and eggs are available, and when. I got my little flock from my local feed store a couple weeks before Easter last year.

I'm in CA but I'm sure things are similar. First of all, wow!!! I commend you and think you deserve a much needed rest! I have a 5, 3, and 2 year old boys, so I know what your life is like. We have a Christian preschool/elementary school around the corner from us that accepts 3 year olds. I put my now 5 year old in there for that first year, at 3 half days a wee, then moved him to another (bigger) private school for PreK, and he is now in K there (this bigger school is where they will hopefully go through 5th grade). I just started my 3 year old at the 3 yr old preschool the same, 3 half days a week (and I am planning on my youngest to also do the same next year). I pay $160 a month for the three half days a week, they start at 8:30 and go to 12:00 noon, they have child care available after that at a fee. There are free preschools in our city, but we do not qualify (even on one income since I'm a stay at home mom) and there is a waiting list usually. Call your local elementary school and ask them if there is something. Also there is a coop type preschool in our town, where the parents take turns helping out. Be prepared though, the first two years of school (no matter what grade you start them at) are the sickness years…my oldest the last couple years brought home every type illness possible. My doctor said the other two should not be as bad when they start since they had already gone through it all with their older brother. A word of advice, if your child is not used to being left with "strangers" he may have separation anxiety (my oldest had a bit of it when he first started preschool, but only lasted a couple weeks right when I dropped him off) (my middle one though, who started last week, is taking is really hard). We have decided as time gets closer for my youngest we will start leaving him with neighbors while shopping, etc to get him used to it. A trick, I made a necklace for my son using a fishing license holder, put a pix of mom and dad, a pix of him and his bros on one side, and on the other a pix of a regular and a digital clock reading 12:00, which is when I pick him up. Also gave him a pix to keep in his pocket, and a family pix in his backpack (I got the backpack this summer to jazz him up). Anyway, you can also call your local county education department and talk to them. Also, call around and get rates of preschools, and maybe you want to find one your son will move on with to K and up. Also, with the 3 year old preschool I chose, I chose it because it had some structure (they had a schedule of their day) whereas the others were mainly daycares. I wish you the best of luck!
